Veterans Small Business Enhancement Act of 2018
We are pleased on the progress being made by the various governmental agencies working to implement this program for veterans.
We recommend you ensure your eligibility for the program by starting the verification requirements now. We have listed information below. You can also visit https://www.va.gov/osdbu/verification/ to learn more about how to prepare.
TIMELINE FOR IMPLEMENTATION:
The General Services Administration (GSA), Veterans Administration (VA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) are continuing to work to develop the procedures on how this program will be administered. Per the last update that we received from the federal government earlier this week, the SBA and GSA’s goal remains to implement these rules is the fourth quarter of 2020 (meaning hopefully we will be able to start welcoming VOSBs into our program shortly afterwards).
NOTES REGARDING ELIGIBILITY:
One of the most frequently asked questions is “How do I know if my business will qualify?” Per the law and proposed rules, the small business must be “verified by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs under section 8127 of title 38, United States Code” in order to be eligible for the Federal Surplus Property Program. Our understanding is that the VA’s online database of Veteran Businesses contains the list of veteran owned small businesses who are currently verified under that portion of the US code, and would therefore be eligible for the Federal Surplus Property Program.
